One area they left room for improvement on is the design in which air velocity can be manipulated to increase power. They split the air channels into two runners and placed a duct with a large area in the middle to drive the air flow into two chambers in the airbox. Because of this, they only put two filter surface areas to bring air in. The first principle was to increase the air flow in volume and in velocity. They achieved this by opening up the duct that connects to the hood to allow more air flow into the airbox. They then used CFD analysis to optimize the design of the air filter media. Advanced simulation software showed that a bell-horn like design would both maximize filter surface area and most efficiently distribute air flow around the filter which provides 360 degrees of material compared to just 180 degrees on the OEM filter.
