The Problem: Exhaust Cam Timing Drift
If you’ve been deep in the S58 tuning world, you’ve probably heard about — or logged — the issue: at high RPM and load, the exhaust VANOS sprocket simply can’t keep up with commanded timing. Why? Because the exhaust cam gear is driving more components than ever before, including:

Two high-pressure fuel pumps (HPFPs)

Upgraded, higher-pressure valve springs

Increased boost levels and higher cylinder pressures
Under these conditions, requested and actual exhaust cam timing start to drift apart. This can cause a huge drop in power — we’ve seen losses of 200–250whp — because optimal valve timing is essential for top-end performance.
And it’s not just at the top end — valve timing plays a huge role in spool-up and mid-range torque as well.
Why Locking the Cam Isn’t the Answer
A popular “fix” is to lock the exhaust cam sprocket. While this can prevent drift at high RPM, it comes with a big trade-off:

If you lock for top-end power → you sacrifice spool and mid-range torque.

If you lock for spool and mid-range → you lose high-RPM horsepower.
In our testing, locking for top-end power resulted in 500–800 RPM slower spool, a massive loss in responsiveness. This is the exact compromise variable valve timing was designed to eliminate when it was introduced in the 1980s.
Variable timing lets you optimize low-end torque and spool while still delivering maximum top-end flow — and that’s exactly what we preserve with this kit.
The VTT Solution: Reduce the Load by 50%
The root cause of the S58 timing drift is mechanical load on the exhaust cam gear. Our solution is simple but effective:

Remove the forward HPFP — instantly cutting the driven load by half.
Here’s why it works:

The S58 does not need two HPFPs for serious builds — anyone pushing enough power to consider cam locking is already running supplemental fueling (port injection).

At high RPM, direct injection (DI) is only contributing ~20–30% of total fuel delivery on big-power setups.

By slightly increasing port injection contribution (usually only 10–15% more up top), you can completely offset the loss of the forward pump.
For reference, Gen 2 B58 platforms are making 1500+ whp on a single HPFP without any fueling limitations.

Installation & Tuning Requirements
This kit requires custom tuning changes, including:

Adjusting PI (Port Injection) strategy to compensate for the removed pump.

Depending on power level, increasing oil pressure at high RPM (This is OPTIONAL, but something we recommend in tandem with the kit.
