Hello! A 1977 Ford is very likely a plug in style speedometer cable, which would actually use our 5292 sender.

I have a ford AOD transmission that did not come with a speedometer cable gear. What teeth count should I use when selecting a gear (17, 18, 20) or does it matter

Hi Chief352,
Our electric speedometers can be calibrated regardless of gear ratio. That said, the faster the sender spins, the smoother the operation of the speedometer. So in that regard, we would select the smallest gear, 17 tooth.
Thanks,
Jim

Thank you for your question. It certainly should. Our speedometer is compatible with just about every VSS, all you will need to do is go through the calibration process for it to work accurately with your application.

Thank you for your question. This is one of our Electric Speedometers, not one of our GPS speedometers. You can use this with our GPS module #5289 and that will make this function as a GPS speedometer. I would recommend getting our Phantom GPS speedometer #5880. It is 3-3/8" like this one, however, it only goes to 140mph not 160mph. The #5880 does come programmed and equipped for GPS and includes the antenna.

Is it programmable and if it is how

Thank you for reaching out to us. Yes, our electronic speedometers are programmable and can be re-programmed at any time after a gearing or tire size change. You can find the detailed instructions on calibrating in the instruction link below, but it's as simple as pushing a button, driving a predetermined 2 mile distance, then pushing the button again.

Hi Joe, thank you so much for contacting us. We can either program mileage onto an existing speedometer for you or do a special build on a new one with miles added. It's important to note while we can add mileage, the firmware in them does not allow mileage to be taken away. To add miles to an existing unit, send it to our service team using this form:
http://www.autometer.com/media/Service_Form.pdf
If you'd like to order one with mileage already built in, please give us a call at 866.248.6356 and we can help to facilitate that. Hope this helps!

Wanting to upgrade my mechanical to this electric on my '77 Landcruiser Fj40. I found a part that connects to my transfer case speedo output to a 5/8 - 18 male fitting for a speed sensor. What can you recommend? Not wanting the GPS option.

Thank you so much for contacting us. Unfortunately our thread on style speed sender uses a 7/8"-18 thread. We do not presently have a direct adapter for your transfer case. You could use something like this driveshaft speed sender, though GPS is the best option:

Sorry for the bad news, I hope this helps.
