Is it possible to replace the light in the gauge? I no longer have the Expedition I was using this gauge in and would like to put it in a different vehicle. The green illumination doesn't match the other gauges in the other vehicle (orange, white).

Thank you for your question. The lighting on these gauges cannot be changed. They use LEDs built directly onto the circuit board to provide the lighting through the dial face.

What gauge of wire is used from the sensor/sending unit in the pan to the gauge itself? I need to splice, solder, and repair and want to use the same size wire for the best connection possible.

Thank you for your question. This uses 22 gauge wire. We would recommend soldered connections and it would be important to check to ensure 0 resistance through that new connection.

I had a new transmission fluid pan put on my truck and the mechanics spliced the wires to extend them so the sensor would fit in the sensor port on the pan. I have extra wire coiled up out of the way, what is the best way to fix this?

Sorry, we’re not sure if we fully understand the question. If you’re looking to eliminate the extra wire, we would not recommend making any adjustments if everything is functioning properly. You can cut out extra wire and reconnect, but the temperature gauge is based on resistance, so it would be critical that you have a perfect, soldered connection with zero resistance.

I bought this gauge and can't get it to work with the manifold 2286 in return hard line (which is hot as well as the supply) is it that i have it mounted with sender pointing up? or does it need more ground? Gauge lights and dims as should, 12v is good, ?

Thank you for your question. If using an electric gauge with 2286 you more than likely need to run a remote ground wire to the sending unit. the sending unit grounds through the threads and will not have sufficient ground through the adapter. Run a ground wire from a good engine ground to the body of the sending unit. If your issue persists, contact our support team so they can go through some further troubleshooting steps. Thank you for the question. It's important to know, despite being Ford Factory Match, these are designed as add-on auxiliary gauges and not necessarily vehicle specific. This should work for you, but there are potentially a couple challenges. The 8457 Full Sweep Electric model includes an 8FT harness from the gauge to the sender. That should be enough, but we don't recommend extending it, unless the connections are soldered, zero resistance connections. Secondly, in the test port, we often see an internal clearance issue with the sender. This potential problem can be eliminated by using our Short Sweep Gauge model 8449 (https://www.autometer.com/2-1-16-trans-temp-100-250-f-sse-ford-factory.html) along with our shallow depth sender model 2259 (https://www.autometer.com/shallow-depth-electric-temperature-sender-250-300-and-340-deg.html)
