What is the fan activation and deactivation temperatures. Will any aftermarket sender work with the 1236?

answer
Answer this Question
Jim from AutoMeter · 2 months ago
This sender will not activate a fan. It is designed specifically to drive our temp gauge. You cannot substitute any other sender for the 1236, it must use a 2258.

Thank you for contacting us. This gauge is designed to work only with our 2258 or 990344 sender. If it’s an actual AutoMeter sender that you have, if it also has a -27 stamped on it, that would be compatible.

I have water temp gauge 5437 and oil temp gauge 5447. what is the correct replacement sender for each? I'm reusing the gauges but need new senders for a new engine. also, if 990344 or 2258, is there a version that doesn't include extra adaptors?

Thank you for your question. Both of those gauges use sender #2258. All our senders will include some common adapters. 990344 and 2258 are both the same sending unit, one is just paired with marine gauges and one is paired with automotive gauges so we can give separate part numbers to automotive distributors vs marine distributors, but they are the exact same thing.
