Need a new battery to test an old battery?
Product requires a brand new battery to perform accurate test on old batteries. This was confirmed with the manufacturer. But it is not stated as such in the user manual.
The readings it produced without first testing a new battery indicated that my 6 year old batteries had more capacity than they were ever designed to have. And not just a little more, they are 28Ah and this tester tested them to be 38Ah.
The manufacturer claims that the tester is a "professionally accurate reserve capacity battery load tester" "quick and accurate results". But it does not provide accurate tests without having a new battery to test an old battery.

The Correction Factor only comes into play when using the Database of battery types. Due to significant variation across manufacturers of low current batteries, the factory specs may be the same, but the actual performance of the batteries may differ. So you establish a Database of specific batteries, which gives the tester a Correction Factor to properly test that specific battery.

I have RC-300. Can I use it to test Car batteries? Right now I use it mainly for testing our SLA batteries used in our UPS. Or do I need to get SB-300?

Hi Bud,
The RC-300 will not test Automotive batteries. You might want to check out the SB-300:

Thanks,

I have 2 of these and my old one (before it quit working) would allow me to communicate to it through terminal software and pull up the battery history and more, the new one does not. Is there a way to make the new one allow this again?
