Product Information
M10x1.25mm E12 torx bolt, secures the connecting rod end cap to the connecting rod, one time use only
This bolt is designed to secure the rod bearing cap to the connecting rod. When replacing rod bearings this bolt will need to be replaced. Please note that around 2/2003 BMW switched the connecting rods on S54 engines. Originally equipped connecting rods used a double hex M11x1.25mm. This bolt is to be reused and cannot be replaced. Later built S54 engines use an E12, M10x1.25 bolt which can only be used with updated connecting rods. This bolt must be replaced with each use.
Note: The torquing procedure is a 3 step process typical of any torque to yield bolt:
First sequence:
1) Jointing torque - 5 Nm (~4 ft lbs)
2) Setting torque - 20 Nm (~15 ft lbs)
3) Angle of rotation - 105 ° in single stroke
4) Back off bolt approximately one turn and then re tighten again in second sequence
Second sequence:
1) Jointing torque - 5 Nm (~4 ft lbs)
2) Setting torque - 20 Nm (~15 ft lbs)
3) Angle of rotation - 105 ° in single stroke
4) Back off bolt approximately one turn and then re-tighten again in third sequence
Third sequence:
1) Jointing torque - 5 Nm (~4 ft lbs)
2) Setting torque - 20 Nm (~15 ft lbs)
3) Angle of rotation - 105 ° in single stroke
