Complete tie rod assembly which includes the inner tie rod and tie rod end
Tie rods are a commonly overlooked replacement item on high mileage vehicles. In general, tie rods develop play in the ball joints over time which results in poor steering response as well as the inability to properly align the vehicle. If your BMW's steering feel isn't as precise as it used to be it is likely due to worn out tie rods.
When replacing your tie rods it's also recommended to inspect and replace the steering rack bellows if they are old, worn, or have holes in them. The steering rack boot prevents moisture, dirt, and other debris from damaging the steering rack or inner tie rod end.
