Starter motors are what get your engine running. In order for an engine to start it must be rotating. The starter motor spins the engine via the flywheel or flex plate while fuel is injected into the engine. Starter motors are very robust and have a long service life but can fail. A failed starter motor will prevent you from being able to start your car.
