Look inside most winning Indy cars and NASCAR vehicles and you'll find Clevite engine bearings. Since the development of the first precision insert-type bearing in 1929, Clevite bearings set the pace for engineering quality, and today they exceed industry standards for strength and durability. Most Clevite performance bearings use a special TriMetal design, first developed 50 years ago and perfected over time. A copper-lead alloy is added to a steel back, which is then electroplated with a white metal surface layer which produces an ideal degree of conformability, embedability, slipperiness, and fatigue resistance. P-Series rod bearings are the oldest members of the Clevite 77 performance bearing family. They're intended for high-revving engines, especially those where the high rpm cause the rod bores to narrow. To compensate for this distortion, these direct replacements have higher eccentricity and a high crush factor. Clevite P-Series rod bearings are built on hardened-steel backings with extra-thin overlays, and their lower sections have dowel holes for use with aluminum rods, and there are extra-clearance variations available with an additional 0.001 in. of clearance.
