Application:
Harley-Davidson Gen 2 Milwaukee 8 Center-Cooled Engines
After endless hours of hard work from our engineering and product teams, we are beyond excited to announce we are now able to flash tune the latest Generation 2, Milwaukee 8, Center Cooled Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Our best-in-class Power Vision 3 and Power Vision 4 flash devices are now both compatible with these new type of ECU, and will start shipping June 2025.
Of course, we understand this exciting news comes with a slew of questions, all of which will be revealed with time, but for now, we've compiled some FAQs for you below, along with some helpful resources to help shops and riders get ready for this launch.
How can I tell my vehicle is a Generation 2 Milwaukee 8?
If you have a cam cover with a rectangular kickout, you have a Gen2 M8.
If you have hand controls which look like this, you have a Gen2 M8.
New out of the box, the PV3-15-04 and PV4-15-04 are specifically made for turn-key use to address this new generation of bikes without an added feature license.
If we already own a Power Vision 3 or 4, can we use it on one of these new bikes, like a 2025 Road Glide?
Yes, in June, we will have a firmware update to support these fitments. Once installed, you will need to upgrade your Power Vision's Firmware. Then, in addittion to the firmware, you'll need a new Feature License to make it capable of flashing the new applications.
- Gen 1 PV4’s are not compatible with these new applications, only Gen 2 PV4
-
Gen 1 = NO intermediate Connector Gen 2 = 8-Pin intermediate Connector
How does licensing work for tuning multiple bikes with a single Power Vision 3 or 4 device?
Each vehicle requires a Flash License. Both the Power Vision 3 & 4 are privy to the Flash License program, allowing the same device to be used on many bikes (new or old) through the exchange of Universal Tokens. As always, each new device comes with the ability to Flash ONE vehicle, so you only need a new license if you are flashing more than one vehicle with the same device.
How do I get a Flash License so I can work on another bike? And how much will it cost?
We've designed our Universal Tokens system specifically with our Dealer network in mind.
Flash Licenses can be obtained by exchanging tokens for the license.
Digital products (like Flash Licenses) are only available for purchase with digital currency (Universal Tokens).
Once you've purchased your desired amount of tokens, you have different ways of obtaining your desired Flash License.
Specific to this release for the newest Gen2 Harley-Davidson Motorcycles when using Power Vision 3, you'll need to interact with the website by uploading your PV_Info.txt file to obtain an installation STK, plus the communication file for your bike.
We'll have instructional videos on this process coming soon!
For Power Vision 4, once you've purchased tokens on the website, they'll auto-populate in your PV4 app after you've signed in, and can purchase Flash Licenses in there.
You should know that the process to flash the ECU is different than earlier applications. To keep it simple, a special file will first be flashed to the ECU that essentially prepares the ECU to be read, then the original file will be read (.stk), and ultimately you’ll flash a tune (bundled .djt recommended).
With Power Vision 4, after installing it on the bike and connecting via the app, you must always perform a read of the ECU first to get your stock file. Pre-configured tune files will be listed after this read. The PV4 is connected to the cloud, so the tune file list stays updated with new calibrations and features.
More information on all of this is available here on the Dynojet Knowledge Base, and we'll have step-by-step video guides releasing soon as well.
Does the initial release of Power Vision 3 or Power Vision 4 for these new bikes include advanced features like Autotune or Target Tune?
No, the initial release of this Power Vision 3 does not ship with Autotune enabled on device or Target Tune on device. It is also not able to do the ADaPT (Activations Diagnostics & Programmable Tuning) Feature set, which includes popular features like ABS Bleed or Adding Cruise Control at the moment. This is also true with the Power Vision 4.
Why aren't features like Autotune available yet for these new ECUs?
Our engineers has spent nearly two years, working day and night, developing, reverse engineering, bricking some ECUs, learning this new level of security, building tune files, passing signatures, and playing nicely with this ECU. We needed to release the product to get it into the hands of tuning centers who have been building a backlog of customers and those customers who have been waiting.
Essentially, we want to get you guys tuning ASAP, but don't worry, it's next on the agenda.
How can we use Power Core with these new bikes and Power Vision 3/4 for custom tuning?
With Power Vision 3 or 4, you can open the stock file in C3, the tune editor in Power Core, to begin customizing tuning parameters for various tables, spark events, etc. Datalogs from the PV3 or PV4 can be opened in Dynojet Power Core (WinPEP8 data center) to analyze the bike's performance or isolate issue. Also, Power Vision 3 or Power Vision 4 allow tuning shops to stream data live into Power Core by connecting via USB (PV3) to the computer or DJ-CAN (PV4) to the Dynoware RT Main Box. Wideband AFR data is easily integrated and synchronized by utilizing on-bike accessories, such as Autotune, or during a dyno session utilizing the Dynoware RT Dual AFR module.
Are Dynojet wideband devices compatible with Power Vision 3 or 4 for these new bikes, and how are they used for tuning?
Yes, Power Vision 3 is compatible with Dynojet air fuel devices. Power Vision 4 is also compatible with Dynojet wideband devices dedicated for these Harley-Davidson Motorcycles; the wideband device connects into the PV4, and the data can be projected onto your phone (PV4 app) or streamed into Power Core. This allows for wideband monitoring and logging data for review in Power Core to refine tunes.
What are the part numbers for the wideband kits?
For Power Vision 3, the wideband monitoring kit part number is AT-130. For Power Vision 4 for these new ECUs, the part number is AT-121B.
Does this launch support VVT fitments?
Yes. This product supports Non-HO, HO, and VVT Gen-2 M8 applications.
Will the Original Power Vision (PV-3B) be able to flash these new ECUs?
Unfortunately not. The Power Vision 3 and 4 will be the only devices that will be able to work with these fitments. The truth is that the hardware inside the PVOG is from the 2011-2012 era, aka the same time the iPhone 4s came about. It cannot meet the requirements needed to work with this ECU. This also means that WinPV software will not work for these new bikes with enhanced security.
However, over the last couple of years, we've worked tirelessly to make the Feature Set on our PV3 and PV4 on par and even exceed that of the PVOG.
As we mentioned though, some of these features won't be available upon the initial release in June, but they are in the hopper, so stay tuned.
For all of you PVOG guys, we've worked hard on producing multiple resources available to you to help with learning C3 Tuning Software, PV3, and PV4, with more videos and articles coming very soon as well.
Note: it is mandatory to use a battery charger during the installation / ECU set up process! Do not use the SAE connector, as it’s managed by the BCM and will ultimately disconnect the battery charger from the battery. A direct battery connection is required.
- The process to flash the ECU is different than earlier applications. To keep it simple, a special file will first be flashed to the ECU that essentially prepares the ECU to read, then the original file will be read (.stk), and ultimately you’ll flash a tune (bundled .djt recommended, see screen shot below). Remember, C3 in Power Core allows you to open and edit .stk files, which then save as a .djt tune file.
