I bought 2 of these for my boat and I'm installing them and noticed there isn't a wire with a light bulb like the rest of the auto meter gauges I purchased, I purchased the tac #200890-35 and 2 speedometer #200635-35 and neither of these have the light.

Thank you for your question. The bulbs are internal on the unit so they have a terminal on the backside of the gauge you will have to adapt a wire to. Please see the instructions linked: https://www.autometer.com/pub/media/manual/2650-1597.pdf , https://www.autometer.com/pub/media/manual/2650-1138.pdf

What determines the size? Is it the opening for the base of the unit or is it the face of the gauge?

Thank you so much for contacting us. By and large, the size of the gauge is the hole size you'll use (ie 3-3/8" gauge uses a 3-3/8" hole). The only exception to this is the the 5" gauge, which actually use a 4-5/8" hole. Hope this helps!
