The engine timing cover gasket is a seal that sits between the engine's timing cover and the engine block or cylinder head. The timing cover protects the timing chain or timing belt, which controls the synchronization of the engine's valves and pistons. The gaskets seal off the cover from the engine preventing debris from entering the timing system and extending the life of the timing components like belts, chains, and tensioners. In certain systems, gaskets on the timing cover will prevent oil from leaking out of the engine and interfering with timing components.

• Increased Noise (NVH): Damaged gaskets will expose the timing components to the elements and cause excessive noise and premature failure.
• Oil Leaks: The most common sign of a failing timing cover gasket is oil leaking from the engine onto timing components in certain systems.
