A Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is an essential component in a vehicle's engine management system. It measures the pressure inside the intake manifold, providing data to the engine control unit (ECU) to help calculate air density and determine the correct air-fuel mixture. This information is critical for optimal engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions control.

• Check Engine Light: A malfunctioning MAP sensor often triggers the check engine light, indicating a potential issue with the engine management system
• Poor Engine Performance: If the MAP sensor fails, it can lead to reduced engine power, sluggish acceleration, or hesitation during driving due to an incorrect air-fuel mixture
• Rough Idle: A faulty MAP sensor may cause the engine to idle roughly or inconsistently, often leading to stalling or difficulty starting the engine

FAE MAP Sensor

The FAE MAP sensor, absolute pressure of admission, detects the air pressure at the inlet of the vehicle and turns it into an electrical signal which is sent to the engine’s electronic control unit (ECU) in order to regulate the stoichiometric mixture.

Some models do have a NTC type temperature sensor that allows the MAP to detect, not only the pressure, but also the air temperature at the inlet. This information is necessary for the ECU to calculate the mass of intake air in order to be able to adjust the air-fuel mixture. The sensor element of the MAP is a piezoresistive type configured as a Wheatstone bridge, - its electrical resistance varies according to the mechanical de- formation of a membrane.
