Shock absorbers are a common wear item on higher mileage vehicles in general. On a more performance oriented vehicle such as a BMW worn or completely blown shock absorbers will have a negative effect on performance and handling. If your BMW's ride has become bouncy over rough road surfaces there is a good chance that the shock absorbers will need to be replaced.
If your suspension is feeling "bouncy" or "loose" it can likely be attributed to blown or worn shock absorbers. The purpose of shock absorbers is to dampen the recoil of the coil spring as your travel over dips and bumps in the road.
