Complete tie rod kit featuring center tie rod, tie rod ends, idler arm, and self locking hex nut for idler arm mounting point
BMW E39 540i and M5 models are different in the fact that they use a steering box versus a more modern steering rack. This setup has a few inherent differences compared to a steering rack arrangement. For one, the steering of your V8 E39 features a center drag link which is controlled via the drop arm bolted to the steering box. The other end of the center link is controlled by the idler arm. When replacing the center link it is highly recommended to replace the idler arm.
This kit also features the tie rod ends which attach to the center drag link/tie rod assembly. The tie rod ends are critical in the fact that they transmit the inputs from the center drag link and transmit the input to the steering knuckles. When the ball joints are worn on the outer tie rod ends you will usually hear clicking of creaking noises while turning at slow speeds. Additionally, steering feel will be way off.
This kit includes everything you will need to replace you center drag link and outer tie rod ends. Please note that an alignment will be required after installation.
