Rack and pinion bellows are protective rubber or synthetic covers also known as boots that seal and protect the rack and the joints from the rack to the spindles. They encase the steering rack's inner tie rods and prevent contaminants like dirt, debris, and moisture from entering, which can cause wear and tear on the system’s moving parts.

• Visible Cracks or Tears: Physical inspection may reveal cracks or splits in the bellows, allowing contaminants to enter the steering rack
• Premature Wear of Steering Components: Damaged bellows expose the rack and pinion to dirt and moisture, which accelerates wear on the steering components, potentially leading to more frequent alignments or part replacements
