Power Steering Pump

Power steering pumps pressurize the fluid in the steering hydraulic system to allow for steering assist at slow road speeds. The power steering system is powered by the engine via a serpentine or v belt which spins the pump pulley. Power steering pumps are generally a lifetime component.

However, poor power steering system maintenance, old power steering fluid, and incorrect power steering fluid can cause the pump to fail prematurely. If your power steering pump is screaming or chirping when you are turning the wheels you may need to replace it.
