Rebuilding and replacing the seals in single-VANOS engines is pretty easy and straightforward, restoring lost engine power, smoothness, and refinement. This kit includes one seal and one o-ring for the Vanos piston. The o-ring and seal feature an upgraded material (Viton) over the factory seals that tend to weaken and break down over time. The loss of oil pressure due to worn seals affects Vanos operation, reducing torque especially in the low and mid-RPM range.

Replacing the M50-S52 Vanos seals is done with the Vanos unit removed from the engine. It's a standalone repair - not really shared with any other work except a valve cover gasket or top-end valvetrain overhaul. We strongly suggest purchasing a top-end gasket kit that will include all of the other gaskets and seals needed when opening up the cylinder head of the engine.

With the Vanos disassembled, this is also the only time to replace the rings that cause “marble in a can” Vanos rattles. The Beisan anti-rattle ring is produced with a tighter size tolerance to reduce play and gaps and eliminate Vanos rattle.
